NBA Draft "What If's"

NBA fans love to talk about “what if” scenarios. What if a player never got injured? What if that game winning shot was missed? What if a blockbuster trade never happened? The NBA is full of “what if” moments that could reshape the entire history of the league. But one of the biggest “what if” topics NBA fans love to talk about is NBA draft picks. NBA draft picks are one of the most valuable assets to an organization. Whether a team wants to keep the player they drafted or use their pick as an asset to gain another player, there is no denying how much value NBA draft picks hold within the NBA. One of the most popular “what if” draft night scenarios comes from the 2009 NBA Draft. The reason this draft is so talked about is because the Minnesota Timberwolves had back-to-back picks in the 2009 draft. With both picks, they decided to pass on who would become the greatest shooter in NBA history. The possibilities of what would have happened if the Minnesota Timberwolves had drafted St...

Game Day Music Debate: Hype or Overhyped?

When it comes to being a fan in the stands waiting for tip off, the music at a basketball game can either make or break the entire vibe. Whether you are at a packed NBA arena or a sold out WNBA matchup, the soundtrack sets the entire mood before the first whistle. This is where fans start to question. Is arena music truly enhancing the game experience, or has it become a distraction and background noise? When it comes to the NBA, a playlist usually consists of genres like hip hop or focus on mainstream hits. Artists like Drake, Travis Scott, Lil Baby, and Meek Mill tend to take over warmups within the league. The songs do in fact get the crowd going, but the formula of song choices rarely change. As a fan, you can easily predict what songs will be played for the game before you even sit down. The song choices work. Every beat hits, the players vibe, and the fans get excited, but after a while it can start to become repetitive.  On the other hand, the WNBA seems to experiment ...

What College Basketball Really Means

Every year, college basketball reminds us all why we fell in love with the game in the first place. College basketball is known for its raw, unpredictability, and filled with passion. For those kids, it's not just about the scoreboard. It's about the stories, their futures, the underdogs who make the comeback, the players who refuse to quit when the odds are against them. College basketball is just a mirror of life. Every possession on the court teaches patience, teamwork, and the courage to keep shooting, even if there have been a few misses. It shows us that leadership isn't about being in the spotlight. That sometimes leadership is about making the extra pass, lifting up others, and trusting the process. Everyone in the basketball culture knows that what happens on the court only reflects how we live off it. Maybe you're studying all night for finals, managing a part time job, or just trying to find yourself in the world we live in, but you're still playing your...

What Is the Best Way to Watch Basketball? You Decide.

There are so many ways to experience the game of basketball nowadays. Whether you like watching from the comfort of your home, catching the action live at the arena, or enjoying the atmosphere with other fans, people can experience the game however they enjoy it most. But what’s the best way to enjoy the game of basketball? Lets break it down  1. At the Arena  Pros:  The atmosphere  In a stadium, you can feel every dunk, cheer, and buzzer-beater in real time.  Stadium food is its own experience! Grabbing a bite at a game is part of the basketball experience. Even if your team’s not doing great, you can spend your time at the concession stand! Cons:  Expensive!  Going to a game is probably the most expensive way to enjoy basketball, especially the higher up you go in the professional ranks. An NBA or WNBA game can easily break the bank. Overwhelming Some fans may find the loud crowd, constant cheering and small spaces overwhelming.  2. At a Bar/ Re...

The Problem with Bandwagoning in Basketball

Loyalty used to mean something in basketball. People picked a team and stuck with that team through wins, losses, rebuilds, and whatever else came their way. Nowadays, it seems like every season people are repping a different team. The rise of bandwagoning has completely changed what it means to be a fan. Now what would I say are the biggest reasons for the uprising in bandwagoning?  1. Social Media  Everyone has some sort of social media on their phone. Whether it’s Snapchat, LinkedIn, or Reddit, it’s hard to find someone today who doesn’t use at least one platform. Social media has made it easy to follow what’s trending, and that is part of what has hurt the game of basketball. The constant stream of content focused only on "powerhouse" teams has especially hurt the NBA and WNBA.  2. Championship Culture   Everyone nowadays is obsessed with being a “winner.” Everyone wants to be the best at everything, and this mentality has changed what it means to be a basketball...

Interview: Lessons From Coach Driscoll, A Retired High School Basketball Mentor

High school basketball shapes not only athletes but entire communities. Few people know this better than Coach Driscoll, who spent 10 years on the sidelines mentoring players, building programs, and teaching life lessons. Now retired, Coach Driscoll reflects on what the game has meant to him, and what he hopes players and fans will carry forward. Q1: What inspired you to become a basketball coach, and how did you get your start? I played basketball my entire life. I've loved the game ever since a kid, and someday always dreamed of having my own kids to watch them play. I never ended up having kids and decided it would be best to take up a coaching position in my free time. Q2: Looking back, what do you think was your proudest moment as a coach? My proudest moment would have to be mentoring those kids. One I certainly won’t forget had a spark every time he stepped on the court. He ended up graduating and played basketball for Madison, Wisconsin. Seeing him play on TV was one of the...
